Ask yourself what it is you want in a home. Is this your first home? Are you looking to stop paying rent? Are you looking to upsize or downsize? Is your family growing? Consider areas you are interested in moving to – how long is your commute to work? Is the neighbourhood new? How much space do you need? It’s very important to determine the “needs” versus the “would like to haves”.
Determine how much you can afford
Get pre-approved by a qualified mortgage specialist or lender. They will help you determine how much you can afford to pay every month and a price range that works within your budget – taking into account your down payment, income, existing debt, regular expenditures and other key financial information.
